BLITZ

What is Blitz?

Matchmaking games and systems built by Command Line for the Otherside.

Blitz

Early Access: Blitz is currently in beta. More features and polish are on the way. Expect updates.

Blitz is a suite of matchmaking games and supporting systems built by Command Line for the Otherside. The matchmaking, gameplay mechanics, social features, and in-world systems are all built from scratch for this environment.

Matchmaking

Blitz handles matchmaking automatically. Select a game mode, queue solo or with a party, and the system finds a session and places you in it. There is no manual server browsing or session joining. The matchmaker handles placement based on availability and, where applicable, skill parity.

  • Solo queue: Queue independently and get placed with other players into a match
  • Party queue: Queue with a group of friends. All party members are placed in the same session together
  • Queuing with a party does not require a full team. You can queue as a partial group and the matchmaker fills the remaining slots

Gameplay Systems

All gameplay mechanics are built specifically for Blitz:

  • Combat: Ranged weapons, melee, and weapon slot management
  • Traversal: Grappling, teleportation via cans, vent warp points, and gliding
  • Environmental hazards: Interactive map elements (soap, dookie, rat traps) that affect movement and health
  • Pickups: Weapons, health, and ammo that respawn on timers at fixed map locations
  • Buffs: Temporary effect items that grant advantages for a limited duration
  • Emotes: Cosmetic animations triggered by the player mid-match

Each system is documented in the Gameplay section.

Social Systems

Blitz has a full social layer built into the game. Friends, parties, chat, and direct messaging are all handled in-game.

  • Friends list: Add players and maintain a persistent friends list
  • Parties: Create or join a party to queue and play together. Party members are kept together across match sessions
  • Chat: Three channels are available: Global (all players in Blitz), World (players in your current session), and Party (your party members only)
  • Direct messages: Send private messages to individual players from the Players list or friends list
  • Online presence: See which friends are online and what they're doing

Social features are documented in the Social section.

Game Modes

  • Deathmatch: Free-for-all combat where every player fights for themselves
  • Team Deathmatch: Two teams compete to reach the kill target first
  • Control Point: Team-based objective mode where teams fight to capture and hold zones

Maps

  • BAYC Bathroom: The first Blitz map, set in the Bored Ape Yacht Club bathroom
  • Thornwood Ruins: Overgrown ancient ruin with tight corridors and vertical platforming
  • Glacia Research Station: Arctic research station built around ancient crystal formations and an industrial mining complex
